The Afghan school: giving help to those who need it.

In 2022, Local Literacy Project traveled to rural Afghanistan and found a way to make a massive impact. Help us do more.

About us

We are here to support vulnerable children being raised in underprivileged communities.

Direct to the source, this is born from the passion of three people hoping to do good. That passion emanates through every step of our giving process.

We have something really special here and we want to share it with you. We've developed a unique relationship with the elders of a small rural neighborhood in Afghanistan. With their help on the ground, we've started a school for local children.

The goal and mission behind LLP

In the coming months and years we hope to grow. Over the next few months, we'll expand to two more schools in a village near our flagship village so we can help service a new community. True to our strong grassroots ethos, the elders of this village approached us, not the other way around. Our work has spoken for itself and nearby communities are drumming up excitement to get involved and build a better future for their children. We hope for this to be the first of many organic expansions and we will continue to search for new underserved towns and villages in the countries that need it most and build out similar programs.

How our charity got started

Three New York City locals bonded over their passion for the singular importance a basic education has in opening worlds and providing opportunities for growth and happiness in the children that experience it. This initiative was born from a feeling of urgency to bring teachers into the lives of as many children as possible throughout the world.

Together, let's give kids a chance to read.
